Patrick Shen founded Transcendental Media in 1999 with the vision of
creating films and documentaries "to agitate the sleep of mankind" and
that would have worldwide, lasting impact.
Prior to that, Patrick held various positions at E! Entertainment
Television, where he worked alongside major talents such as Dustin
Hoffman, Kevin Nealon, John Henson, Hal Sparks, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Brad
Garrett, and Richard Jeni. There he would perform roles such as audio
engineer and chyron operator on Emmy award winning shows like "Talk Soup"
and "E! News." Several years later, he would leave E! to pursue work in
documentaries full-time, beginning with a role as Second Unit Director on
the Emmy-nominated documentary We Served With Pride, which earned him a
meeting with President Clinton in the Oval Office.
In 2003, Patrick completed Flight from Death: the Quest for Immortality,
his first feature-length film, which he directed, edited, co-wrote, and
co-produced. This critically acclaimed film, beautifully photographed in
eight countries and three years in the making, earned seven "Best
Documentary" awards at film festivals around the country. Flight from
Death was released domestically in 2005, in Australia and New Zealand in
2006, and is currently being shopped around in other foreign territories.
Just recently, Patrick completed post-production on Change Your Life!, a
mockumentary feature film about the world of multi-level marketing and
pyramid schemes starring Tony Plana ('Ugly Betty", "24", Three Amigos,
JFK) and Taylor Negron (Fastimes at Ridgemont High).
Over the past decade that Patrick has been working in this business, he
has racked up numerous awards and accolades including 'Best Documentary'
awards at The Malibu International Film Festival, The Silver Lake Film
Festival, The Beverly Hills Film Festival, and The Northern Lights
Documentary Film Festival and has become a sought-after director,
producer, and editor with several films in the works.
